Ricky Williams, the suspended NFL running back, signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) on Sunday and looked good in his first practice with the team today.
After being suspended for the second time by the league (he was suspended for the 2004 season for substance usage), Williams received permission from the Miami Dolphins to play one year in the CFL, with assurance that he returns to the Dolphins for 2007. He signed a $240,000 deal with the Argos, making him the highest-paid runningback in the league.
Damon Allen, the quarterback of the Argonauts who is also the brother of NFL Hall-Of-Famer Marcus Allen, said Williams "looked good" in his first CFL practice today. Williams appeared in great shape and showed the burst he exhibited in the NFL. "Today was his first day and he was able to pick up a lot of things. I found you didn't have to tell him stuff, which shows he's football smart", stated Allen.
