Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has been forced to withdraw Invasor from next Saturday’s $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park. Diagnosed with a 103 degree temperature Invasor missed his scheduled workout on Saturday and has now been declared out of the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
"The timing of it is just terrible," McLaughlin said. "We're going to have to pass Saturday and point for the Breeders' Cup. The temperature has come down but he definitely still has a high white count. You can't put them in a drive and push on the gas. Well, you can, but in this situation we're opting not too."
This spoils a much awaited showdown between Invasor and Bernardini, who is also running the Gold Cup, and is now left with his strongest challenger being possibly Dylan Thomas who could be coupled with Spanish Chestnut. Invasor has been undefeated in the U.S. since coming from Uruguay and is now left with an idle rest before the $5 Million Breeders Cup Classic.
Will it be another Bernardini blowout on Saturday? Bet Belmont Park for the Jockey Club Gold Cup!
