Bookies William Hill have been hit by a gamble on one of the most unlikely bets of Royal Ascot - whether the Queen's carriage will be flying an England plastic car flag as it makes it's down the course in the Royal Procession on the Ladies Day.
Car flag mania has reached a peak as England progress through the World Cup stages and punters are putting their pounds on Her Majesty joining the craze. Hills have been forced to cut the price from 100-1 to 50-1 and are now getting nervous about a possible coup - as happened with the colour of the Queen's hat last year.
Hills spokeswoman Jennie Prest said, "We've had a number of requests for this bet and it has become apparent the public think this is a realistic possibility. We are particularly nervous this year as we've been caught out by a few big Royal gambles in the past!"
With Her Majesty wearing a pale green hat today, Hills have pushed out the price for her also to wear green or turquiose on Ladies Day but have trimmed up red after a number of bets this morning.
